Specialist support

At WJM Social Care, we provide tailored specialist support services for individuals with complex health, behavioural, or emotional needs. Our focus is on delivering high-quality, person-centred care that promotes independence, dignity, and a fulfilling life—no matter the challenges someone may face.

Specialist support is designed for people who require more than general care services. This may include those living with autism, learning disabilities, mental health conditions, sensory impairments, neurological disorders, or behaviours that challenge. Our goal is to create a stable, supportive environment where individuals feel empowered, understood, and safe in their own homes or supported living settings.

We believe that no two people are the same, which is why we offer completely bespoke care plans, created in close partnership with the individual, their family, and healthcare professionals. We take time to understand the person’s needs, strengths, routines, and aspirations—then shape our support around them. Whether care is required for a few hours a week or on a 24-hour basis, we ensure every element is tailored to what’s most important to the individual.

Our specialist team is made up of highly trained support workers with the knowledge, patience, and empathy needed to support people with complex or sensitive needs. Staff receive specialist training in areas such as autism awareness, epilepsy management, positive behaviour support (PBS), mental health, communication strategies (including Makaton and PECS), and safeguarding. Ongoing professional development ensures we continue to meet the changing needs of those we support.

We follow robust processes to ensure that our services are safe, responsive, and well-led. Quality assurance, supervision, and risk management are all central to our delivery—giving families and professionals peace of mind.

Specialist support goes beyond physical care. We also promote emotional wellbeing, social inclusion, and personal development. Our team works alongside individuals to help them access education, employment opportunities, hobbies, community services, and social activities. We support people to gain new skills, build confidence, and live as independently as possible, while always having the support they need.

For individuals displaying behaviours that challenge, our approach is always proactive, respectful, and grounded in evidence-based techniques. We aim to understand the root causes of behaviours, reduce triggers, and build positive relationships that foster trust and consistency.

We know that supporting someone with complex needs can be overwhelming at times for families. That’s why we’re here not just as carers, but as partners—offering advice, guidance, and regular communication every step of the way.

Whether you are looking for support for a young person transitioning to adulthood, long-term specialist care, or short-term intervention, WJM Social Care is here to provide the right support, in the right way, at the right time.
